A really long lineA really long line

Last night as I walked toward the train, I passed the Delta Center in downtown Salt Lake City. There was a huge line stretching around the Delta Center; the line was probably about two blocks long. Out on the north east plaza there were a bunch of trucks for the local radio stations (everything from country to alternative rock), all lined up. I couldn’t figure out what the line was for.

I’m curious by nature, so I saw somebody leaving the line (more than half way through the line) and walking down the steps. I called out to her to ask what the line was for. Her response? And I quote:

“I dunno. Some stupid thing that I don’t even know what it is even. Yeah. I dunno.”

So, I still don’t know what the line was for. And I guess the girl I talked to doesn’t either. And it only took her a block of waiting in line to figure out that she didn’t want to wait to find out.

Can I tell you that I love our mortgage company? They have been fantastic through this process, and we are still three weeks away from closing.

We have been working with Kristen Moyes from Rocky Mountain Mortgage, and she has been top-notch. Starting with the loan application, to the in-person meeting, she has constantly been professional, and has exceeded my expectations. With the trouble with my incorrect names on my credit report, Kristen took the time to explain to me what I had to do, then she e-mailed me information about what to do, and then she e-mailed me forms that I could use to get the information corrected. Then today, at work, I got a delivery of a basket of cookies. They were from Kristen. When I got home, (Christina had been at work all afternoon) at the front door there was a basket with chips and salsa for Christina. There were even flowers at my dad’s funeral (although she knew my dad, so it wasn’t because of me and Christina that she sent them).

If you are looking for a loan, or are looking to refinance, call Kristen at Rocky Mountain Mortgage. Tell her I sent you. You’ll be glad you called.

Contact Kristen Moyes at Rocky Mountain Mortgage.

(Note: I receive no benefit from referring you to Kristen. I am just a very happy customer, and would like to see Kristen do well because she is so good at what she does.)

The enemy of a name? The enemy of a name?

Remember my post last September about the trouble caused by having my dad’s name? Now remember that we’re applying for a mortgage as part of purchasing our first condo. See the trouble? And to make it worse, with my dad’s passing, we submitted his death information to the credit agencies, so my morgtage consultant is really hoping that none of the credit agencies thinks that I was the one who died, since they seem to get us confused easily.

The trouble is that we’re easy to confuse, but not so easy to un-confuse. In the credit report run by the mortgage company, there is only one account that is listed that isn’t mine. However, when I pulled up my free credit report, I found another one listed that isn’t mine. (Both are my dad’s.) And I still can’t fix the “N P PHERSON JR” name on one of the three major credit agencies records. Why? Because you can’t update your records unless you have a credit report. Well, I tried to get a credit report from that agency late last year (when I first blogged about this whole fiasco), but there was an internal server error that prevented me from seeing the report, but it still got listed as serving me the report. (I still got a report from a different agency.) Well, without the report, I don’t have a report number. And without a report number, you can’t contact them in any fashion. So my choices are (1) wait until September to get a new credit report from them, or (2) pay for a version of my credit report, which is silly because I just paid the mortgage company for a copy. If I were to pay the agency for a copy it would just be so that they can fix the error that is already on their records. But I have to get it fixed because I’m trying to buy a house.
What a fiasco.

“Tis but thy name that is my enemy. What’s in a name? That which we will call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet.” (Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet)

Did I mention…Did I mention…

I realized that in all the goings on of the last few weeks I totally forgot to mention that we are buying a house. A condo, actually. But we’re really excited.

You may remember that we set up our neighbor Mara with Christina’s uncle Tad, and that they are getting married. And Mara is moving to California, so we are buying her condo. We’re already approved on the mortgage, and the condo has been appraised. Now we just have to wait for closing on the 19th of July.

The only down side to moving is, well, the moving. Our mortgage officer, Kristen (whom I highly recommend), gave us five boxes that we could use to start our move. I looked at the boxes, and thought “what are these for?” Then I realized, “Oh. We actually have to go through that process of moving all our belongings from one loation to another, three blocks away.”

Right! Buying a house means we actually have to move. This realization didn’t come until after we were under contract.

We’re gonna need a lot of boxes. Anybody wanna help? I’ll mention you on my blog…

Today marks the two-year anniversary for Technically Speaking. I started this blog as a blogspot blog two years ago today. Even though I’ve moved the blog to my own domain now, I still have all my old posts.

If you are interested in reading that first post, you can go here, or for other archived posts, you can check out a new feature I’ve added to my blog: the Technically Speaking Archives page.
